Thomas grew up just outside of Houston but quickly made his way into the Austin music scene where he fronted bands that saw local and regional success playing famed clubs like Steamboat, Babes, Saxon Pub, and Hole In The Wall. Teaming with producers Mark Hallman and Stephen Doster on a 5-song EP, Thomas co-written fan favorite, Lucy, a haunting fairy tale of a young girl who finds her way in a world stacked against her, found regional radio play on KLBJ Austin. After years of playing to crowds in Austin, Thomas moved to Los Angeles to gain broader exposure while recording his debut album. Promoting Another Night Somewhere Else, Thomas played Hollywood venues including The Roxy, 14 Below and The Gig and gained a loyal and significant fan base.
In 2002, Last a Light Year off of Another Night Somewhere Else was the most downloaded MP3 on mp3.com in Spain. Thomas latest work, ’Strange Company’, cleverly finds new routes to sing of love, longing and life, sometimes even dealing with dark subject matter, with an airy groove that makes people want to sing along almost instantly. nyc (bigger than you are), the introductory song on the album, is a signature Thomas Vecera work that combines alternative folk writing with stylistic pop grooves and an unforgettable chorus.
